The objective of this paper is to assess the social factors that affect whether or not an individual will drive through a flooded road. Surprisingly, research is limiting regarding driving during floods, yet, more than half of flood fatalities occur in motor vehicles. This paper investigates the issue of driving through flooded roads by administering surveys to people in Denver, CO, and Austin, TX. Results show that people are more likely to drive through flooded roads if they: do not take warnings seriously, are aged 18-35, lack the knowledge that vehicles are a dangerous place to be during floods, and lack previous flood experience.
