  • 60th anniversary of Flood Diane event

    Tue Aug 18th, 2015

On Wednesday, August 19, at 7 p.m., Bucks County author Mary Shafer will release the 60th anniversary edition of her book, Devastation on the Delaware: Stories and Images of the Deadly Flood of 1955 at Nurture Nature Center.  Hear a presentation about the flood and her book, followed by a short Science on a Sphere show about hurricanes.  Mary will be signing and selling books.  Bring and share your flood stories with neighbors and enjoy conversation over light snacks.

  • Virtual Hurricane Presentation!

    Thu Sep 8th, 2011

The remnants of Tropical Storm Lee, dropping massive amounts of rain on ground already saturated from Hurricane Irene, caused Nurture Nature Center to cancel its program, "Hurricane Season: What's Ahead?" on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011.  But National Weather Service's Gary Szatkowski, Meteorologist-in-Charge of the Mt. Holly, NJ, weather forecast office, has shared with us slides he would have presented, and we are posting them here: Gary Szatkowski Hurricane Presentation 090811 for Nurture Nature Center.  The Science on a Sphere portion of the presentation can't be shown online, but you can come see our hour-long FREE program on Climate and Flooding at the facility on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., Thursdays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 2:30 p.m., or our "Best of the Sphere" show on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m., or Saturdays at 1:30 p.m. ($3 children, $5 adults).  Thanks, Gary Szatkowski, and the rest of the National Weather Service regional team, for your hard work keeping us all informed during this serious weather event.

THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO FLOODING.  PLEASE CHECK BACK FOR RESCHEDULING INFORMATION. Nurture Nature Center will host a presentation on hurricanes at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2011, using Science on a Sphere's real-time data showing  the life of Hurricane Irene.  Planned before Irene, this presentation is all the more timely as several tropical storms in the Atlantic may turn into tropical storms and hurricanes in the coming weeks.  Come learn more about hurricanes, what is expected for the 2011 season, and how to prevent losses from hurricanes.  (Click on headline to see a full-color poster with details).
