National Weather Service, Service Assessment. “Southeast United States Floods, September 18-23, 2009.” May, 2010.

In September 2009, flash flood and areal flooding covered areas of Georgia, Alabama, and southeastern Tennessee after rainfall in the regions totaled 5-7 inches. These events led to 11 casualties. Because of the severe impacts of these events, the National Weather Service put together a Service Assessment Team to evaluate the performance before and during the flood events. The extensive report that came out of this evaluation includes a hydrometeorological summary (antecedent and event conditions, impacts, river flood warnings and forecasts for major flood stage), and facts, findings, recommendations, and best practices.
